Make sure you:
1. Eliminate sugar and processed foods from your diet
In order to lose weight fast without exercise, you must stay away from high glycemic foods that cause spikes in blood sugar. These are foods that your body converts to glucose very easily such as: sugar, foods made with white flour, or sweet fruits. It is also best to avoid processed foods and unhealthy fats.
Your body needs glucose. When you stay away from foods these foods your body creates glucose by burning fat! That’s right! When you eat a low carbohydrate diet, rich in healthy fats and protein as well as healthy vegetables and low glycemic fruits, your blood sugar is more stable and your body burns fat to provide glucose to the body.
2. Eat nutrient dense foods that are easy for your body to digest
You’ve heard it said you are what you eat, but that isn’t entirely accurate. The truth is, you are what you digest and absorb! Proper nutrition gives our bodies the building blocks to heal and operate at maximum performance. When you’re trying to lose weight fast without exercise, you want your body devoting maximum energy towards burning fat.
Be sensitive to your body. Try to discover foods that are easy for your body to digest and absorb. Try to eat foods that are organic, gmo-free and preferably not a typical allergen (i.e. dairy). Allergens waste energy in the body when the body fights against itself, so are best to be avoided when trying to lose weight fast. The energy would be much better spent in metabolizing fat, wouldn’t it?
Clark’s Tip: Chew foods more slowly not only to feel full faster but also to activate digestive enzymes in the mouth that aid in the digestive process. You’re paying a lot for your healthy food, why not make sure you’re absorbing the nutrition!
3. Portion control
Most people eat more calories than their bodies need. This not only leads to overwork of the digestive system, but contributes to the obesity epidemic we have today. One of the simplest ways to lose weight fast without exercise is with portion control. Calorie for calorie, vegetables take up more room in the stomach than protein making you feel full sooner. A good rule-of-thumb is to eat until your 80% full and leave 20% for digestion.
Clark’s Tip: Eat more nutritious vegetables to fill your stomach without all the extra calories.
4. Maintain regularity
In order for you to lose weight fast without exercise and become healthier, toxins and waste must exit the body! Having regular bowel movements is crucial to minimize toxin and waste re-absorption through the wall of the large intestine thereby supporting overall health and weight loss effectiveness. Fiber-rich foods may help maintain regularity as well.
Clark’s Tip: Try to have your bowel movement at the same time every day. In addition to making sure you drink your water, I’ve found that having a bulky food, such as brown rice or quinoa, as part of your meal just after the bowel movement may help improve daily regularity. Also a magnesium supplement that increases the peristaltic movement in the intestines may help with regularity as well, especially if you’re magnesium deficient, which most people are.
5. Drink plenty of water
Try to drink 1/2 your body weight in ounces of water throughout the day. For example, if you weigh 200 lbs, you should aim for 100 ounces of water throughout the day. Water not only helps hydrate your cells, but also helps flush out toxins and keep your body working at peak performance.
Clark’s Tip: Try to minimize water drinking around meal time. Water dilutes stomach acid making digestion less effective. Instead drink your water 30 minutes or more before meal. This hydrates your body preparing it for proper digestion and will help reduce your appetite even before you start eating.
In one study, water consumption before a meal showed a 44% greater increase in weight loss. (1)
6. Get plenty of rest and sleep
Sleep gives the the body time to rest and recover from the day. Proper rest can mean improved performance and quality of life for the next day. A good rule-of-thumb is to aim for a minimum of 7-9 hours of sleep per night.
Clark’s Tip 1: Try to get your sleep hours in before midnight rather than by sleeping in in the morning. Your body has natural biorhythms and prefers waking up at the same time each morning. Remember, early to bed, early to rise, makes one healthy, wealthy and wise!
Clark’s Tip 2: Try to make sure your food is fully-digested prior to bedtime. This may mean eating a lighter, more easily digestible dinner, or you could try to eating dinner earlier in the evening.
7. Plan your meal and snack options ahead of time
When your trying to eat healthy and lose weight fast without exercise, planning ahead is critical. Lack of proper planning will likely lead to impulsive and poor food choices, which we don’t want!
Clark’s Tip 1: Pick a few healthy ingredients and keep them available to make the meals simple. For example, quinoa, brown rice, wild-caught fish, free-range chicken, eggs, fresh or frozen vegetables. What I like to do is pick a meal with three ingredients that I can usually make in less than 20 minutes in a cast iron fry pan with a little coconut oil. The quinoa or brown rice I make in bulk and store in the fridge for the week and I grab when needed. That leaves a protein and vegetables for the meal that I need to cook, which is very easy in one or two fry pans. I usually make extra to store in the fridge for future easy meals.
Clark’s Tip 2: Pick some healthy snack options that are always readily available. My favorites are granny smith apples, raw almonds, frozen blueberries and popcorn.
